Redesign the schoolyard to create more playing and seating areas, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Design
The schoolyard is small, considering the number of children attending this school, and it gets a great deal of use. Every square metre has to be utilized to offer the children sufficient playing and seating space during recess. By means of a simple intervention, the schoolyard’s height was lowered to create a small football pitch, with seating areas on opposite sides. It can also serve as an amphitheatre for small performances and events. That means three functions in one. In addition to the new playground equipment, there are also a few benches of The Big Bench model. Thanks to the new design, the schoolyard has a more uniform look, activities are spread out better, and the use of the schoolyard is more varied.
